Начинал играть в Электростали за местный "Кристалл". В составе сборной России завоевал серебренные медали чемпионата мира среди молодёжи (до 20 лет) 1995 года. Сезон 1996-97 провёл в ИХЛ, играл за команду из Юты - 68 игр, 0 голов, 4 передачи, -11, 34 штрафных минуты. Начиная с сезона 1997-98 гг большую часть времени проводил в АХЛ.

Свою первую шайбу в НХЛ забросил 4 января 2000 года в поединке против Бостона. Большую часть сезона 2001-02 гг отыграл за «Норфолк» (АХЛ), забросив 2 шайбы и сделав 8 передач. В 2002-03 гг набрал 7 очков (4+3) в 53 играх за «Хартфорд» (АХЛ). В 2003-04 гг вернулся в Россию, подписав контракт с «Ак Барс». В 2004-05 гг выступал за нижнекамский «Нефтехимик», забросив 3 шайбы отдав 5 передач в 58 матчах. В 2006-07 гг перебрался в хабаровский "Амур".

Чебатуркин нашёл работу в "НЙ Рэйнджерс". 

Этим летом, третий год подряд, Владимиру Чебатуркину снова пришлось искать себе новое место работы, так как его бывшая команда "Чикаго Блэкхаукс" не дала ему квалификационного предложения и Владимир стал свободным неограниченным агентом. Поиски россиянина оказались не такими уж и долгими, и уже в прошедший четверг он подписал контракт с "НЙ Рэйнджерс". Условия договора не были оглашены. 

В Нью-Йорке 27-летний Чебатуркин увеличит российскую общину до пяти игроков (П.Буре, Малахов, Каспарайтис, Ляшенко), однако его шансы на попадание в основной состав команды не очень велики. Слабое место Владимира - отсутствие должного опыта - за пять лет в НХЛ он сыграл лишь в 62 матчах, забросив две шайбы и сделав семь передач. 

В прошлом году он 13 раз появлялся в "Чикаго Блэкхаукс", но лишь тогда, когда кто-нибудь из основных защитников команды получал травму. Тренеры "Блэкхаукс" давали довольно лестные отзывы об игре Чебатуркина, однако постоянного места ему всё же не находили. Владимир закончил сезон 2001-02 с двумя точными передачами и шестью минутами штрафа. Он также сыграл три игры в плэй-оффе, не набрав очков и заработав по системе плюс/минус -2. Большую часть сезона россиянин провёл в Норфолке (АХЛ), набрав 10 очков (2+8) и 78 минут штрафа в 57 поединках. 

Годом ранее, в 2000-01 гг Чебатуркин сыграл 22 матчах за "Ст.Луис", забив один гол и сделав два точных паса. До этого, в течении трёх лет он был членом "НЙ Айлендерс", проведя за команду 25 игр.

Борис Миронов пропустит от двух до трёх недель. На его место вызван Владимир Чебатуркин.

Не часто увидишь, чтобы хоккеист получал травму в матче из-за своего же одноклубника. Но именно это случилось в прошедший понедельник в Лос-Анжелесе, когда после толчка нападающего "Чикаго" Стива Салливана, защитник "Блэкхаукс" Борис Миронов неудачно упал на лёд, вывихнув плечо. 

После медицинского обследования Миронову был вынесет диагноз - отдых от хоккея в течении двух-трёх недель. 

"Две недели это слишком оптимистично," - сказал генеральный менеджер "Чикаго" Майк Смис. "Я думаю что он сможет снова играть через три недели."

Вполне возможно, что Борису придётся согласиться на хирургическое вмешательство после окончания сезона. 

"Конечно же я не хотел нанести ему травму," - сказал виновник Стив Салливан. "Я хотел его подтолкнуть, чтобы придать ему скорости, но похоже он этого не ожидал."

Место Миронова в составе "Блэкхаукс" займёт Владимир Чебатуркин, срочным порядком вызванный из фарм-клуба. 

"Как я уже говорил, Владимир не заслуживал быть отправленным в фарм-клуб," - сказал старший тренер "Чикаго" Браян Саттер, которому пришлись по душе действия Чебатуркина в шести матчах в январе, когда он также подменят травмированного Миронова. Family: Mother Zina is a retired physician and brother Valera (29) works for a bread and flour company. Wife Marina previously worked for a dentures manufacturer. She and Vladimir have a bilingual daughter, Anna (4), who loves to go to Chuck E. Cheese's.

Background: Raised in Suurgut, Siberia, Chebaturkin learned to skate at age 10 in subzero temperatures on outdoor rinks he cleared with a shovel. At 14, a coach took him for a successful tryout with a club team in Elektrostal, Russia, 20 miles from Moscow. Practicing twice and day and attending school, Chebaturkin eventually played for Russia at the World Junior Championships. He was the New York Islanders' third pick, and the 66th overall, in the 1993 NHL entry draft, and after three professional seasons in Russia, he made the jump to North America in 1996. Signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent last summer, Chebaturkin has played in 55 NHL games. He brings a steady, physical presence to Norfolk's back line.

Hockey highlight: "Being drafted. But it took the information three days to get to Russia. I came into the practice rink, and the guys told me `Do you know you got picked by the New York Islanders?' "

Hard times: "The first year here, in America, that was the toughest year for me because I didn't speak English. The coach would tell me what to do, and then he'd ask if I understood. And I would just shake my head, `Yes,'and go play hockey."

Post-hockey plans: "I'm studying for my coaching degree. I want to stay in hockey somehow."

Did you know? In his late teens, Chebaturkin studied to be a welder.

Из-за травмы Бориса Миронова, растянувшего мышцу около ребра, "Чикаго Блэкхаукс" вызвали из своего фарм-клуба другого российского защитника Владимира Чебатуркина. Старший тренер "Норфорка", дочерней команды "Чикаго", дал Владимиру самые лучшие рекомендации: "Нет никаких сомнений, что он сразу может влиться в игру и быть полезным." 

В своём первом матче за "Блэкхаукс" и 50-м в НХЛ, 4 января против "Тампы Бэй" (2:0), Чебатуркин был поставлен в связку к Александру Карповтцеву и провёл на льду в сумме 14 минут и 58 секунд, закончив поединок с плюс 1. Браян Саттер, страший тренер "Чикаго", сказал что россиянин сыграл намного лучше, чем от него ожидали: "Нам даже пришлось его немного сдерживать. Он может быть очень заметен на площадке благодаря своей физической игре."

Chebaturkin equal to test ; With Mironov out, defenseman fills in nicely // Chicago Tribune

 With Boris Mironov sidelined because of a pulled muscle in the rib area on his left side, Blackhawks coach Brian Sutter decided to take a look at another Russian defenseman in Friday's game with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Vladimir Chebaturkin came from Norfolk with a high recommendation from the farm team's coach, Trent Yawney. According to Sutter, "Trent said there's no question that he can step in and be useful."

It was the Hawks debut for Chebaturkin, signed as a free agent Sept. 5 after playing 49 NHL games with the New York Islanders and St. Louis during the last four seasons.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 226-pounder, who was a third-round draft choice of the Islanders in 1993, is a stay-at-home defenseman. In Friday's game, Sutter paired him with fellow Russian Alexander Karpovtsev.

Chebaturkin played 14 minutes 58 seconds in the Hawks' 2-0 victory, recorded four hits and was a plus-1.

Question mark: It's uncertain how long Mironov will be sidelined by the injury he sustained in the second period of Monday's game in Ottawa.

"I was trying to clear the puck along the boards and I pulled a muscle," he said. "I tried to keep going but I couldn't. It really hurt when I skated hard."

Mironov, who hasn't skated since the Ottawa game, has scored three goals and assisted on eight, and his plus/minus rating is plus-12. The Russian Olympian has either an even rating or a plus rating in 20 of his last 21 games.

"Us and we:" Detroit's Scotty Bowman is the head coach of the World team and Sutter is his assistant for the Feb. 2 All-Star Game because their teams were 1-2 in the Western Conference standings after Friday's games.

"All it does is reflect on the team's success and that's all I care about," Sutter said. "That's something the group can be proud of. They accomplished something. It's not I and me; it's us and we."

Remember when? Last season there were rumors Hawks general manager Mike Smith was disenchanted with goalie Jocelyn Thibault and was trying to get goalie Nikolai Khabibulin, who at the time was in his second season as a Phoenix holdout.

But the Coyotes wound up trading Khabibulin to Tampa Bay on March 5 and he has become the cornerstone of the Lightning defense.

"Their goaltender is as good as any in the league," Sutter said.

What about Thibault?

"He's leading the league in wins," Sutter pointed out. "That's the most important category there is."

Leading ladies: Members of the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team were greeted with an ovation from the 16,608 fans when they were introduced before Friday's game. The Americans play Canada at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the United Center.

Chebaturkin Waived After Impasse // Newsday.

Vladimir Chebaturkin, a promising young defenseman in the Islanders organization who has played well in his 10-game call-up stint from Lowell (AHL), was quietly placed on waivers on Tuesday after an apparent contract disagreement between his agent and Islanders general manager Mike Milbury.

Chebaturkin, a third-round selection by the Islanders in 1993 who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, was at LaGuardia Airport on Tuesday afternoon, waiting to board the team's flight to Montreal. Given the opportunity to either sign a contract or be demoted to the minors, Chebaturkin, 24, refused to sign and did not board the plane.

Assistant general manager Mike Santos said Chebaturkin was given the ultimatum 10 days ago. "That [the demotion] was made clear to him before he officially turned it down at the airport," Santos said.

According to the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players association, Chebaturkin, a Russian in his third NHL season, must first clear waivers by today at noon before being reassigned.

Chebaturkin's California-based agent, Gary Greenstin, said yesterday he had been in discussions with Milbury and, while the two sides disagreed on one sticking point-a one-way contract versus two- way-Greenstin offered to hold off the negotiations until next week, when the Islanders play a three-game West Coast swing in California. According to Greenstin, Milbury told him, "It's now or never."

Chebaturkin was given one last chance to sign a contract, believed to be a 10-percent raise over his current $385,000 salary, before being placed on waivers. "This is the way we are going to handle negotiations," said Santos, who pointed to the fact that Chebaturkin has played in only 18 games for the Islanders in three seasons.

The Islanders then called up defenseman Evgeny Korolev from Lowell to replace him in the lineup. In the dressing room after yesterday morning's skate, the players seemed both confused and disappointed by the move. One player said the 6-2, 225-pound Chebaturkin had been one of the team's best defensemen the past several games. In 10 games this season, he recorded 39 hits, blocked 16 shots, scored his first NHL goal and had an assist.

Through a team spokesman, Milbury issued a statement on the situation, saying, "We like Vladimir and want him to be part of the organization. We offered him a very fair contract, with a raise and a deletion clause. After a week, his agent turned it down. So, instead of showcasing himself while Zdeno Chara [injured shoulder] is out, we're opting to give a chance to a talented kid like Evgeny so we can see what he can do."

The deletion clause would change the contract from two-way to one- way after Chebaturkin appears in a set amount of games with the Islanders. A two-way contract allows an organization to send a player to the minors and not have to pay his full NHL salary. Greenstin said the Islanders weren't showing Chebaturkin respect.

"It's not the money," he said. "If they want to sign him, they have to show him respect. We understand Mike Milbury, but I believe Vladimir Chebaturkin deserves respect from this organization."

Chebaturkin, who remained on Long Island, was not available for comment. Greenstin said the Islanders will have made "a very big mistake" if a team claims Chebaturkin off waivers. "He fits exactly what they're trying to build," Greenstin said. "He belongs with the New York Islanders."

He might not for long.
