In an interview with championat.com, a Russian Sports website, Bryzgalov touched on a wide-range of topics, including his respect for Joseph Stalin and Communism. Sam Donnellon writes more about that on Page 46. Here, we'll focus more on Bryzgalov's thoughts about the City of Brotherly Love. The interview was written in Russian and translated, poorly at times, by a Google program. When asked about Philly's poorer sections, Bryzgalov said: "There are enough of them [slums]. This is not a small part of the city. Too many do not work, live on welfare and get food stamps for. They just do not want to work. Their principle is: 'Why should I work when I can live, let them raise taxes on the rich, which are injected. I'll sit on the dole, the year I will get it here, then move to another state - start getting there.' " Even if the translation isn't entirely accurate, it's clear that Bryz isn't enamored with the city. He went onto say that he lives in New Jersey, but doesn't like the houses there because they "smell of mildew and old age." "Americans like it," he said, "But let me [have] something new." No problem. How about a new job in a new city? Fighting homelessness Philly's own Matthew Saad Muhammad, a member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame, will be at Chickie's & Pete's in South Philly tonight to raise awareness for homelessness. The former light-heavyweight champion, who was homeless for a time, is hosting Knock Out Homelessness. The event is sponsored by One Step Away, Philadelphia's street newspaper produced by the homeless. Former Phillies Darren Daulton and Juan Samuel are also scheduled to appear. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $100 at the door and include hors d'oeuvres, open wine/beer bar, and unlimited video gaming.
