Bure can't shoulder the pain
By GEORGE JOHNSON -- Calgary Sun
SAN JOSE -- His right arm encased in a sling, Valeri Bure tried
to remain upbeat.
"The good news is, it's still there," sighed the Flames' winger,
surveying his ailing wing.
"I don't know anything about this. All I know is that it's stiff,
sore. I'm hoping to play at home against Vancouver."
That's being very optimistic.
The suspected injury is a sublexed shoulder, which could in a
worst-case scenario keep Bure out for the rest of the season.
He flew back to Calgary yesterday for x-rays to determine the
extent of the damage.
The Russian Pocket Rocket was injured when 200-lb. Mike LeClerc
of the Mighty Ducks fell on top of him, Bure's right arm awkwardly outstretched
to try and prevent the fall, during Sunday's 3-3 OT tie at the Pond.
"When he fell on it, (the shoulder) popped out of place and I
put it back in. I tried to roll over and I couldn't feel it. That was a
very scary moment."
Bure spent a difficult night in his hotel room following the
incident.
"I couldn't lie on my side so I slept on my back," he moaned.
"My back hurt.
"My sides hurt. I didn't get much sleep, to say the least."
