DETROIT (CP) -- Centre Sergei Fedorov knows no one is more affected by Steve Yzerman's knee injury than him.  

"It changes my role," Fedorov told the Detroit Free Press. 

"Tremendously."  

Wings coaches probably will ask more of Fedorov than any other player during Yzerman's indefinite absence.  

While Fedorov said every player should shoulder greater responsibility, he doesn't mind leading the way.  

"This pressure doesn't bother me at all," said Fedorov. "I see this as an opportunity. It's not like I have my hands full and don't know what to do."  

Fedorov has been through this before. While Yzerman played only 58 games in 1993-94 because of injury, Fedorov enjoyed his finest season. He had 56 goals and 120 points; won the Selke and Hart trophies, given to the NHL's top defensive forward and most valuable player, respectively; and was a first-team all-star.  

"I've felt my whole career that the more I play, the better I play," Fedorov said. "If I get more ice time, I can get more action. And if I can get more action, hopefully it will be a positive."
