В прошлом году Фёдор Фёдоров блистал в предсезонных матчах "Ванкувер Кэнакс" и заслуженно завоевал место в основном составе. Однако сделав всего одну передачу в первых семи матчах, в которых он в среднем играл всего по девять минут, российский нападающий был отослан в фарм-клуб в "Манитобу Муз" (АХЛ), где явно сдал. 

Нынешний тренировочный сбор очень важен для Фёдора – ему предстоит ответить на вопрос, сумеет ли он пробиться в НХЛ или его карьера пойдёт по другому пути, тем более что предстоящий сезон последний по действующему трехлетнему контракту. 

"Мне уже 22 года и уже пора что-то делать," - сказал Фёдоров журналистам из Ванкувера. "Я чувствую, что сейчас я более уверен в своих силах и я подготавливаю себя к выставочным матчам, где будет учитываться каждая мелкая деталь. . . В этом году я знаю, что я могу играть. Стэн Смил (старший тренер "Муз") сделал для меня очень многое. Он верил в молодёжь в своей команде". 

Однако Фёдоров уже просто устал от негативного отношения к себе от Браяна Бурка, генерального менеджера "Кэнакс" и прямо сказал, что сыт по горло его критическими высказываниями. 

Бурк только приветствовал такую фразу россиянина, заявив "Я бы на его месте, наверное, сказал бы то же самое. . . Для меня больше значит действия на льду, чем сказанные слова. Сейчас он (Федоров) избегает прошлогодних ошибок и делает пока что все правильно." 

Главная задача Фёдорова на нынешнем сборе - надежная игра на обоих половинах площадки - как в зоне атаки, так и у своих ворот. В прошлом именно нежелание Фёдора отходить для помощи своим защитникам давала пищу его критикам. 

Пробиться в основной состав "Ванкувера" в этом году для россиянина наверное будет наверное даже потруднее, чем в прошлом сезоне - команда подписала контракт с Магнусом Арведсоном, пригласила на сбор ветерана Майка Кина, на подходя ряд молодых форвардов, однако Фёдорову, с его талантом и его данными, все же это должно быть по плечу.

Федор Федоров снова вызван в Ванкувер. 

Центральный нападающий Федоров Федоров был вызван командой “Ванкувер Кэнакс” из фарм-клуба “Манитоба Муз” (АХЛ) и присоедится к “кэнакам” во вторник, в Нэшвилле. 

Федоров-младший, брат Сергея Фёдорова из “Анахеем Майти Дакс”, показывает довольно результативную игру в нынешнем сезоне – с 20 очками (11+9) в 26 играх он является лучшим в “Манитобе”. 

Это второй вызов Федорова в “Ванкувер” в этом году. В начале ноябре он провёл в команде более недели, но так и не появился в составе. После того, как на тренировке Федоров случайно травмировал голкипера Йохана Хедбера (шайба после броска россиянина попала вратарю в плохо защищённое место на лодыжке), он в тот же день получил указание вернуться в АХЛ.

Moose winger to skate solo today

In the case of Fedor Fedorov, no news is not necessarily good news.

Fedorov, who has 11 goals and 20 points in 28 AHL games this season, hasn't played in any of the past three Manitoba Moose contests.

And barring an unforeseen turn of events, Fedorov won't play today either, since head coach Stan Smyl told him to show up at 10 a.m. this morning for an individual workout.

Because the Moose play the Cleveland Barons at 4:05 p.m. this afternoon, the team won't have a morning skate, only a pre-game warm-up.

NEVER WEAR UNIFORM AGAIN?

Fedorov has fallen out of favour within the organization and there's a good chance he'll never wear the Moose uniform again.

Vancouver Canucks director of hockey operations Dave Nonis, who was in Winnipeg to watch Monday night's Moose game, wouldn't comment on speculation the parent club was shopping Fedorov around to other organizations.

However, Nonis did say the Canucks were disappointed Fedorov hasn't put in the effort required to establish consistency in his overall game, since flying out of the gates with five goals and nine points in his first five contests this season.

LOFTY EXPECTATIONS

If the Canucks are unable to move Fedorov for what they consider fair value, the Moose could re-assign him to the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL, send him home to Detroit or perhaps loan him to a European club.

Fedorov, who was the Canucks' second round choice (66th overall) in the 2001 NHL entry draft and is in the final year of his entry-level contract, has shown flashes of brilliance but failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed upon him.

The skilled Russian has 23 goals and 46 points in 86 AHL games over three seasons -- the first two of which were shortened because of eye and wrist injuries that required surgery -- but only one assist in nine NHL contests with the Canucks.

Fedorov 'OK' in return to lineup - Winnipeg Sun

 ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- His return was a rusty one, but Fedor Fedorov finally got to play an AHL game in 2004.

 After serving a 10-game, team-imposed suspension, apparently because of his actions both on and off the ice just before Christmas, the 22-year-old Russian returned to the Manitoba Moose lineup last night against the Rochester Americans.

 Fedorov, who had 14 shifts and two shots in Manitoba's 2-1 loss, felt three weeks of inactivity definitely hurt him.

 "When I got out there it felt like I had never played hockey before," said Fedorov, who reportedly broke curfew the night before a Dec. 21 game against Grand Rapids, which affected his on-ice performance against the Griffins. "I got a lot of hard work ahead of me."

 Moose head coach Stan Smyl paused long and hard before answering post-game questions about the engimatic and talented winger, but the boss said, "At some point you have to make a decision to get him back in the lineup," and that Fedorov has served his sentence.

 Manitoba captain Dallas Eakins said the Fedorov fiasco has not caused a rift in the dressing room.

 "The best way to put it is the players are really short-sighted people," Eakins said. "Him coming up in the lineup, I'm not going to say guys didn't notice it -- we knew he was coming back in -- but there was no turmoil, there were no second looks.

 "We welcome him back in as another body and that's it."

 When Smyl was asked his assessment of Fedorov's play last night, it clearly showed that not all is forgiven.

 "Very rusty. Just OK," Smyl said. "And if he doesn't get any better he'll be right back in the stands."
