Provorov gets 10-minute penalty for shoving linesman

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov has had a frustrating season.

And his frustration with a high-sticking call against him Thursday night led to an even bigger penalty.

He was called for high-sticking the Nashville Predators' Craig Smith at 13:09 of the second period. As Provorov was skating away, linesman Ryan Daisy placed his hand on the defenseman's back.

Provorov responded with a hard shove to Daisy's chest. He was assessed a 10-minute misconduct, and the combined 12 minutes equaled his penalty total for the season.

"I didnt see the shove," said Flyers interim coach Scott Gordon. "I didn't see what brought it on, I dont know if he didnt like the penalty ... As a player, you know you cant do that."

While Provorov was serving his penalties, Philadelphia's Radko Gudas (delay of game) and Andrew MacDonald (high-sticking) were penalized four seconds apart, but the Flyers managed to kill off the short-handed situation while down three defensemen.

The Flyers won 2-1 behind 31 saves from rookie goalie Carter Hart, making them 2-0 since he was called up and Gordon went behind the bench.

Provorov had a career-best 17 goals and 41 points last season, his second in the NHL. But he had been limited to three goals and 11 points in his first 32 games this season as the Flyers struggled and eventually fired general manager Ron Hextall and coach Dave Hakstol.
