Colorado's Skrastins Out Up to 10 Days

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Karlis Skrastins will be out for up to 10 days with a sprained knee.

The Avalanche recalled defenseman Kyle Cumiskey from Albany of AHL on Tuesday to take Skrastins' place.

Skrastins's streak of 495 consecutive games ended when he couldn't take the ice Sunday night against Anaheim. It was longest by a defenseman in league history.

Skrastins injured the knee the night before in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Colorado is estimating he'll miss no more than five games.

"With a week of rehabilitation and treatment, he should be ready to go," trainer Matthew Sokolowski said.

Skrastins broke Tim Horton's mark of 486 straight games on Feb. 8 against Atlanta. He attempted to dress Sunday night, but after one warmup lap on the ice he told coach Joel Quenneville he didn't think he could play.

"He tried," Quenneville said Tuesday at the morning skatearound. "We'll miss him certainly. You've got to commend him on an outstanding streak and how competitive he is."

Quenneville said he didn't know how much Cumiskey would play Tuesday night against Columbus. Cumiskey had 23 points in 39 games in Albany.

The 32-year-old Skrastins hadn't missed a game since Feb. 18, 2000, when he was with the Nashville Predators.
