Volchenkov roughed up. 23.10.2013. Gulitti, Tom. The Record Things got a little nasty in the third period after Columbus' Jared Boll knocked down Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov with a shoulder to the chest. Volchenkov answered on his next shift by flattening former Ranger Brandon Dubinsky on an open-ice hit. Dubinsky immediately got up and started punching Volchenkov and continued to punch him in the head after he was down on the ice. "I got jumped a little bit from the back," Volchenkov said. "I didn't feel it in my face. Maybe he hit in the helmet." Volchenkov ended up with scratch marks on the left side of his face that he attributed to Dubinsky's "fingers trying to take my helmet from my head." Devils captain Bryce Salvador didn't think it was right that Dubinsky continued to try to punch Volchenkov. "We'll see if the league thinks there's anything on that, but when the guy's on the ice, you can't be punching him in the head and stuff," Salvador said. |
