Slava Voynov pleads not guilty
1 декабря 2014 года. espn.com

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov pleaded not guilty to the domestic violence charge he is facing during his arraignment in a Torrance, California, courtroom Monday morning.

Voynov will next appear in court on Dec. 15 for a preliminary hearing. He left court Monday without comment.

Monday's arraignment is just the latest development in an ongoing legal saga stemming from his October arrest following an incident at home with his wife, Marta Varlamova. After weeks of investigation in coordination with the Redondo Beach Police Department, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office filed a felony case against Voynov last month, charging the 24-year-old Russian with one felony count of corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury.

According to The Orange County Register, the District Attorney sought a no-contact order between Voynov and his wife but the judge denied that request. As ESPN.com previously reported, Varlamova was offered a personal protection order against Voynov following his arrest but she declined.

Through her own personal attorney, Varlamova had requested that Voynov not be charged. The two continue to live together.

Voynov has been suspended indefinitely since his arrest but has been skating on his own in El Segundo, California. He is being paid during the suspension, but the NHL recently provided the Kings some temporary cap relief, allowing them to treat his cap hit like they would that of a player on long-term injured reserve, given the length of the ongoing legal process and criminal investigation.
