Oilers may nail Yakupov to the bench
12.10.2013. The Vancouver Sun. Mateson, Jim

Edmonton Oilers coach Dallas Eakins might want to see how Finnish winger Jesse Joensuu looks in a few more practices before he reinserts him after he was KO'd by a sore back in Vancouver six days ago. But if Joensuu gets the green light to play we might see Nail Yakupov out of the lineup.

If so, it would be Yakupov's first NHL scratch. He played all 48 games in the lockout season, leading the team with 17 goals, and he's dressed for four this season with no points (minus 3).

Yakupov played just 12 shifts in the first two periods (8:05) in Thursday night's 4-1 loss to the visiting Montreal Canadiens, and while he got five minutes in the third period as the Oilers tried to claw back from a 2-1 deficit, the usually voluble Eakins had little to say about the 20-year-old Russian winger's play after the game.

That's usually a sign that he'd rather keep a pointed critique between himself and the player or the coaching staff, not the media hounds.
All he said was "he was out of sorts all night."
