Sabres defenseman Nikita Zadorov may need to invest in a new alarm clock. The Russian rookie apologized for oversleeping after the team disciplined him for showing up late to a meeting, the Associated Press reported on Monday.

Zadorov said it was "my fault" and has "100 percent no excuses" for sleeping in after his alarm clock failed to go off the day before. The incident is the second time in a month that Zadorov has been disciplined for punctuality problems. He was previously benched for two games after reporting to the team late because of a cancelled flight following the All-Star break.

"I'm mad at myself," Zadorov said. "I spoke with the team and said, 'I'm sorry boys. I don't want to lose your trust.'"

Zadorov was sidelined during Buffalo's 2-1 shootout loss against Nashville on Sunday. It has yet to be determined if coach Ted Nolan will allow him to play at Columbus Tuesday.

"He's a great kid. He really is," Nolan said. "We've still got to take in his age and where he came from. Different country. Different environment. Everything's different. It just takes some time sometimes."

Zadorov, 19, was selected by the Sabres as the 16th overall pick of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He has three goals and 10 assists in 42 games and is averaging just over 19 minutes of ice time.
