Zhamnov reinjures hip after collision - Daily Herald
By Tim Sassone
The Blackhawks got a huge scare 36 seconds into the second period of Sunday's 2-1 win over Anaheim when Mighty Ducks defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski fell on Alex Zhamnov's right leg following a collision behind the net.
Zhamnov had to be helped to the dressing room, and after the game coach Brian Sutter said the Blackhawks' leading scorer reinjured the hip pointer he suffered in the Olympics.
"He's basically got the same thing," said Sutter, who admitted it was possible Zhamnov might miss games this week against Carolina on Tuesday and the Rangers on Thursday. "We're going to have to work our way through it."
Zhamnov suffered a right hip pointer in the Olympic bronze medal game on Feb. 23 while playing for Russia. He missed Tuesday's game at Philadelphia but returned to face Montreal on Wednesday even though he wasn't 100 percent.
"There have been games this year when Alex has been hurting so bad that I didn't expect him to play," Sutter said. "It's a tribute that he wanted to play today. I guess the whole season has kind of caught up to him as far as the physical toll on him."
There was fear Zhamnov might have hurt his knee or leg after colliding with Vishnevski.
"When we saw him laying on the ice it looked like he was hurting pretty good," said linemate Tony Amonte. "Hopefully it's a day-to-day thing."
Peter White took Zhamnov's spot between Amonte and Kyle Calder for the
rest of the game.
